Can You Trust a New Motorcycle Tour Operator?
Outbound Moto is a young business, and our social media is still growing. If you're thinking about sending a deposit to a small operator on the other side of the world, that should make you ask questions. It's what we'd do in your position.
So rather than ask you to take our word for it, this page sets out what you can check for yourself before you pay a cent: how the business is set up, what you're paying for, and exactly what happens if something goes wrong. A long Instagram feed can't tell you any of that.
A Registered South African Company
Outbound Moto is a trading name of TUBEPHONIC (Pty) Ltd, registered with the Companies and Intellectual Property Commission since 2018. We're based in St Francis Bay in the Eastern Cape, where every tour starts and ends. We also carry public liability insurance.
A Named Founder You Can Talk To
Outbound Moto is run by its founder, Willem Pienaar, and when you contact us you deal with him directly, not a call centre or a booking agent. Ask as many questions as you like before you book. A serious operator should be happy to answer them, and slow or vague answers are a warning sign with any company.
Published Prices, No Hidden Extras
Our rates are on our website for anyone to see: from €2,950 to €3,450 per rider, depending on group size. Every tour is private, from a single rider upwards. The price covers the motorcycle, a Garmin zūmo XT2 with the route pre-loaded, pre-booked accommodation with secure off-street parking, airport transfers and 24/7 backup support.
We're equally clear about what isn't included. Nights before collection and after you return the bike, your flights and your travel insurance are for your own account, and satellite communication isn't supplied.
Booking Terms in Writing
A 30% booking deposit is payable when you book, and the balance falls due 60 days before you collect the motorcycle. Your booking is confirmed when we issue your written Booking Confirmation, so you always have the terms on paper.
A refundable R25,000 security deposit is charged to your card by secure payment link, due 48 hours before handover, and the card must be in your own name. If no damage is recorded, it is refunded in full within three working days of returning the bike, less any refuelling charge.
Every Route Detail Published Up Front
Both of our seven-day routes, Cape2Karoo and Frontier & Mist, have their own pages with day-by-day distances, and you can download a fact sheet for each. You can compare the two routes side by side and judge for yourself whether the riding suits you before you speak to us.
Honest About What Happens When Things Go Wrong
Every motorcycle is serviced by the KTM dealer on the factory schedule, and we run our own checks before every tour. Each bike carries a small tool kit for minor roadside fixes, which riders are expected to handle themselves.
If something more serious goes wrong, call us. We'll first try to diagnose the problem and talk you through a fix by phone. If that doesn't work, we drive out from St Francis Bay with tools, spare parts and a spare motorcycle on a trailer, then repair your bike on the spot or swap it. We respond immediately, but how long we take to reach you depends on where you are, and we'd rather tell you that now than after a breakdown.
Clear About Who the Tours Suit
Riders must be at least 25 years old and have held a full motorcycle licence for at least two years. Travel insurance is a condition of booking, and your policy must cover medical treatment, emergency evacuation and repatriation, and riding a motorcycle above 750 cc on gravel roads. We'd rather turn a booking away than put the wrong rider on the wrong route.
Ask Us Anything
If anything on this page leaves you unsure, get in touch and ask. We'd rather earn your booking with straight answers than with follower counts.
